16" of fresh snow last night

Hey Drifters,
Windham got much more snow then the weather guys had predicted yesterday morning or even evening. Here at the South groomer base there is 16" of fresh new snow. We've heard reports that North Windham had even more. So get those sleds registered at Town Hall today or online and go riding. We will get out grooming but with this much soft snow we need to let sleds do a little packing first. Hopefully beginning Saturday or Sunday night we will be able to start working the trails. Some depends on crew since several guys had planned a trip to Eustis when we heard it was going to rain here. The beautiful thing is the weather guys were wrong and it snowed and snowed. Get out riding respect our landowners, stay on marked trails, and be safe!!

get dancin' everyone

Hello Drifters,

Not a good day in Windham on the trails.  We received a bunch of rain last night and it is 53 degrees as I sit here typing this.  Currently there is not much snow on the trails so the recommendation is to stay off of them for now.  There is hope in the forecast though.  There are is the potential for a major Nor'easter to hit our area Thursday night into Friday which projections at the moment are 12-15".  This would be huge and propel the trails to an incredible status for this time of year.  So get out there and do some snow dances!!!  If we can get that large of a storm we could be grooming by New Years which has not happened in well over a decade.  Get those sleds registered, become a member of the club, and be safe out there!!

Trails are open but very thin cover

Hello Drifters,

The trails are now all open.  The Hall's Farm bridge was finished today which opened the Pleasant River Trail and the Kilton Lamb Trail.  The snow cover is very thin and tomorrow sounds like a heavy rain storm which may close things up.  If you do get out today there are a few reroutes so some areas will be new for you.  Please check the conditions page to see what issues may be out there.  Also keep an eye on our Facebook page since we still need some help with a couple bridge builds after Christmas.  Be safe, ride respectfully, stay on the trail, and most importantly respect our landowners!!  Enjoy!!  Do your snow dances, the weather guys are hinting at a possible big storm for next Thursday.

most of the trails have been opened

Hello Drifters,

Fortunately the rain Sunday did not ruin the fresh snow.  There is not a lot out there so please don't tear up the land.  We have opened most of the Trails but the Pleasant River Trail from the Westbrook Trail toward the lake and Kilton Lamb Trail is not open due to the bridge at Hall's Farm across the Pleasant River is not open or completed.  We hope to get it opened later this week before Christmas.  Middle Lake Trail has a bridge out as well.  There are a few reroutes so some areas will be new for you.  Please check the conditions page to see what trails have issues.  Also keep an eye on our Facebook page since we still need some help with a couple bridge builds.  Be safe, ride respectfully, stay on the trail, and most importantly respect our landowners!!  Enjoy!!

Not all trails are open

Hello Drifters,

As we begin to get some snow and cold weather the excitement to get out on the trails is very real.  All trails are not ready yet, you ask why?  We ask; did you come out to lend a hand?  With literally only a handful of volunteers and all the prep the system needs we just can't get ready for early to mid December.  At the rate we are able to get things done we will be lucky for January 1.  Some trails are open without issues so check the trail conditions for current trails open.  Several still have gates or rocks blocking the trail which we have to wait for the landowners to move and open.  Hall's bridge on the Pleasant River Trail is still out and we are working on getting that finished.  The Pleasant River Bridge is still open which will open the trail from Westbrook to in Town but use caution closer to the business district since this is were most of the rock and gate concern is.  If you are tempted to go out use EXTREME CAUTION!!  The trails list is not 100% since we don't know if all farm pasture gates have been opened yet.  Obviously it has not been cold enough for the lake to freeze so it may look okay but DON"T take the chance it's not worth losing your sled or worse your life.
